The whole outside of the house, quoted on one sheet of paper.
Roof, siding, gutters, windows, paint and deck. A crew of five out of 220 S Main St in Naperville, and one written proposal that puts the trades in the right order so nothing gets done twice.
What we're working on this month
September 2026. Three jobs, one crew, in this order.
- Sept 8 to 12Lisle. Tear-off and re-roof, 28 squares of GAF Timberline HDZ in Pewter Gray, new 5 inch seamless gutters on all four sides.
- Sept 15 to 19Naperville, Cress Creek. James Hardie fiber cement on the north and west walls, Arctic White, new house wrap underneath.
- Sept 22 to 26Wheaton. Six double-hung replacement windows on the second floor, then a 14 by 16 rear deck rebuilt on the existing footings.
Six trades, one crew
We do not sub out the siding to one company and the gutters to another. The same five people who tear off your roof hang the gutters, so the drip edge and the gutter apron actually meet.
- 01
Roofing
Full tear-off, never a layover. GAF Timberline HDZ or Owens Corning Duration, ice and water shield six feet up from every eave and in every valley.
- 02
Siding, vinyl and fiber cement
James Hardie lap siding with the factory ColorPlus finish, or CertainTeed vinyl. House wrap and flashing tape replaced, not patched around.
- 03
Gutters and guards
5 inch and 6 inch seamless aluminum, formed on site from the truck. Hidden hangers every 24 inches and a mesh guard the crew can still pull to clean.
- 04
Windows
Double-hung vinyl replacement windows, foam-sealed and flashed at the head with a metal drip cap. Interior trim goes back on the same day.
- 05
Exterior painting
Scrape, prime, caulk, then two coats of Sherwin-Williams Duration. We paint after the siding and windows are in, never before.
- 06
Decks
Pressure-treated frame on poured footings, flashed at the ledger board. Trex or cedar decking, with the stair stringers cut on site.
A note from Ellen
I started Maple Ave in 2016 with one truck, a roofing license and a lot of Saturdays. The first three years were roofs only. Then I kept getting the same call after a roof was done: "While you're here, can you look at the gutters? The siding on the north wall?" So we learned the other trades properly instead of handing them off.
We are five people now, and it has been the same five since 2023. Sam runs the crew, I still walk every roof and write every proposal myself, and if you call the office one of us picks up. I sit at your kitchen table with the proposal, not a tablet, and I go through it line by line.
The thing I care about most is order. Siding goes on after the windows. Paint goes on after the siding. Gutters go up after the roof. Get that wrong and you pay for something twice. Get it right and the house looks like one job, because it was.

How one proposal works
Whole-exterior projects get one written document, not six estimates from six companies.
- 1
Ellen walks the whole exterior, roof to grade, and photographs what she finds. Plan on about an hour. She checks the attic for daylight and the grade at the foundation, because a wet basement usually starts at a gutter.
- 2
Within three business days you get one written proposal, itemized by trade, with product names, colors and quantities, and the order the crew will work in. One price at the bottom.
- 3
Cut a line and the price drops by that line. Nothing else gets repriced. When you sign, you get one crew, one start date and one point of contact for the whole job.
What neighbors say
-
We had a roof and gutters quoted by three companies and Maple Ave was the only one who put both on one page with a real schedule. Done in four days, and the crew swept the driveway with a magnet twice.

Ellen caught that our windows were leaking behind the old siding, which nobody else even looked at. She reordered the job so the windows went in first. Saved us from painting it all twice.

Fiber cement on the whole house plus a new deck. Same five guys every single day, and Sam texted us a photo each evening of what got done. The proposal price was the final price.
